We take a long-term view of our operations, starting with the end in mind.
By integrating mitigation, planning and innovation from design through execution, we manage our footprint continuously and raise the bar across our operations.
Tracking emissions allows us to set goals, drive progress and reduce intensity.
Our emissions dashboards give us the oversight needed to monitor performance and identify opportunities for reductions. This data also informs our greenhouse gas (GHG) forecasting process, which helps us manage emissions and track progress toward our reduction target.
Since 2019, we’ve decreased Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by about 43%.
But we’re not done yet. We’re committed to making ongoing reductions in emissions intensity. The goal is a 50% reduction from 2019 levels by 2030, and we are 85% of the way there.
Water availability varies by region, so water stewardship is not a one-size-fits-all proposition.
We tailor our water management to local and regional concerns. Flexibility is key to remaining effective across varying locations and conditions. These include using alternative (non-fresh) water sources, recycling water and optimizing our operations to reduce water usage.
Preventing spills is essential to managing environmental impacts, maintaining our social and regulatory licenses to operate and ensuring a safe workplace.
Our spill prevention efforts focus on fluid transfers, operational procedures, equipment integrity and site design. We proactively assess spill risks, inspect and repair equipment regularly, and use innovative spill detection technologies to prevent and manage spills.
We recognize the importance of diverse landscapes, wildlife, and habitats in areas where we operate.
Our development and restoration efforts are guided by a commitment to responsible ecosystem stewardship. By incorporating biodiversity and site closure considerations within our operational framework, Ovintiv strengthens business resilience, mitigates environmental risk, fosters regulatory trust, and facilitates sustainable, long-term operations.
