From learning to leadership: new grads connect with the board

New grads gain confidence, connection and clear view of their work’s impact in meeting with senior leaders.

Starting your career is more than building technical skills— it’s also about meeting people, understanding the business and finding your voice. At Ovintiv, we create space for new grads to connect across teams and learn directly from leaders who support their growth.

Recently, a group of Ovintiv new graduates came together for our annual ‘Meet the Board’ experience—a thoughtfully designed day that combined peer connection, practical development and direct conversation with senior leaders and members of Ovintiv’s Board of Directors.

The day began with connection beyond job titles. Through a ‘random coffee’ meet-up and team-based icebreakers, new grads met peers outside their discipline and learned about different roles across the organization—reinforcing the value of collaboration early in their Ovintiv journey.

Next came some hands-on development. Participants explored individual strengths and working styles then joined a career-planning conversation focused on ownership, opportunity and growth at Ovintiv. The message was simple: development is supported—and it’s also something you actively shape.

A highlight of the day was a strategy session, where leaders shared how the company sets priorities—and how those priorities show up in everyday decisions. For new grads, it connected their roles to enterprise goals and reinforced that impact isn’t limited by title.

That context helped to set the stage for the evening’s visit with the Board of Directors.

Practice leadership communication

Before meeting the Board, the group joined a coaching session focused on asking strong questions and showing up with confidence. The point wasn’t just to listen—it was to take part in a real, two-way conversation.

Those conversations continued into the evening where grads connected directly with Board members over dinner. The exchange gave participants the chance to learn from experienced leaders—and offered the Board a first-hand view of what matters to Ovintiv’s emerging talent.
