Talent and innovation key to creating critical component for face shields.

Amid the global pandemic impacting the health and safety of frontline health-care workers and first responders, the demand for proper protective equipment has never been higher. What started as a hobby for Jirapa Skolnakorn, Ovintiv™ senior petrophysicist, has evolved into a skill that will help on the frontlines in the battle against COVID-19. Using her 3D printer, Skolnakorn has been creating key components for the face shields of frontline health-care workers and first responders.

When proper protective equipment for frontline health-care workers became scarce, TXRX Labs, a non-profit makerspace community in Houston, shifted their focus to make face shields and help meet the demand. TXRX is a diverse network made-up of creators, artists and inventors that coupled with tools and knowledge, enable dreams to become reality.

As an active member of the 3D printing community, Skolnakorn heard the call to help and quickly went to work turning an ambition into a reality.

Skolnakorn has been running her 3D printer seven days a week, from 6 a.m. each morning until 10 p.m. each night, to create the headband piece for protective face shields. Her goal is to print five quality headbands a day while she continues her daily work from home. To date, she has contributed to the creation of more than 50 protective face shields and has no plans of slowing down while the demand remains.

“My mom is a retired intensive care unit and critical care unit nurse. I understand the critical role frontline health-care workers are playing in the fight against COVID-19 and empathize with the stress they are under,” said Skolnakorn. “I didn’t hesitate to do my part to help out my community.”

TXRX Labs cuts the plastic section of the face shield and assembles the various pieces in their workshop. From there, the face shields undergo quality control, are fully sanitized and then packed for delivery to medical professionals and first responders. Collectively, the group of volunteers is aiming to fill a 10,000-unit order from Memorial Herman Health Systems in Houston.

Spotlighting Ovintiv™ honorees for 2020 STEP Ahead Awards

Ovintiv leaders Vineeta Maguire, vice president, supply management services, and Kim Williams, vice president, environment, health and safety/regulatory/security, were recently named honorees for The Manufacturing Institute’s 2020 STEP Ahead awards.

Williams has been with Ovintiv for 20 years and Maguire approximately 15 years. Combined, the two have more than 50 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.

The STEP Ahead awards acknowledge women in science, technology, engineering and production careers who exemplify leadership within their companies and communities. They recognize the women who are making a difference in the areas of advocacy, mentorship, engagement and leadership.

The eighth annual STEP Ahead awards will take place April 30, 2020, in Washington, D.C., and will recognize 100 honorees and 30 emerging leaders.

Prior to the awards ceremony, the honorees are invited to attend a two-day professional development program that further encourages mentoring and support of the next generation of female talent.

Ovintiv Lends a Hand at Inspiration Ranch

Members of Team Ovintiv learned hooves are made for more than trotting while volunteering at Inspiration Ranch in Texas.

As ranch hands for the day, our team helped loosen the reins so Inspiration Ranch staff could focus on its mission to serve children, youth and adults striving to overcome their physical, emotional and social disabilities through equine-assisted therapeutic activities.

After a long afternoon spent building fences, cleaning trash piles, organizing and stacking lumber—our Ovintiv ranch hands were chomping at the bit to see more of the 40-acre ranch. A much-anticipated tour included an opportunity to witness therapy horse training —expected to help enhance the lives of the special needs community.

We view EHS as a comprehensive approach—supporting the health, safety and vitality of the communities located in close proximity to where we operate. Looking for causes that complement our ideals, we invest in organizations and concerns that are centered around the values of EHS in our local communities.

Community Life

Contributing to community life means investing in programs and endeavors aimed at enriching the lives of the citizens and families who reside in the communities where our employees also live and work.


We believe the best way to prepare the next generation for success is through support of educational programs. Our investment in workforce training is one of many methods we fund to help prepare tomorrow’s workforce. After all, the industry and the community’s greatest resource is its people.

Funding Process

Requests for funding are accepted year-round through our online application system. Ovintiv awards contributions based on opportunities most aligned with our three core areas—EHS, community life or education—in communities where we have active operations.

Guidelines and Eligibility

The organization must be a non-profit or 501c3 organization, located in or serving a community where we have established offices or operations and our employees live.

The organization should be a registered charity eligible to issue official tax receipts for donations, or an established non-profit or 501c3 community organization.

Limitations and Exclusions

Donations will not be made in support of the following:

  • Individuals
  • Religious organizations (except non-faith-based associations)
  • Third-party fundraisers
  • Professional conventions, conferences or seminars or galas—unless industry related
  • Travel for individuals or groups
  • Programs located outside of the regions or communities where Ovintiv operates
  • Political events

We accept funding requests only through our online application process. Applications will not be accepted through email or snail mail. Upon submitting your application, you should receive an email confirmation. Proposals are reviewed on an ongoing basis. It can take up to six weeks for review of your application. We appreciate your patience while your request is carefully reviewed.

We support causes important to our employees with the Ovintiv Gives matching gift program. Employee contributions are matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000 per employee, per year. This program enables employees to double their donations while providing Ovintiv the opportunity to demonstrate its support of causes meaningful to our employees.
